Understanding Trauma and PTSD, and How Mental Health with JoJo Can Help

Understanding Trauma and PTSD

Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) stem from distressing events that overwhelm the brains ability to cope. Symptoms often include flashbacks, nightmares, high levels of anxiety, emotional numbness, and hypervigilance, which can severely impact daily functioning.

At Mental Health with JoJo, we offer personalized, evidence-based treatments such as the combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). With this specific combination of therapeutic techniques we are able to help clients process traumatic experiences, reduce symptoms, and reclaim control over their lives.

Here are the specific steps we take through the use of both CBT & ART:

  • Identify physical and emotional symptoms associated with trauma.
  • Identify present day triggers (memories, anniversaries, responses, individuals, etc).
  • Identify root triggers with the use of Accelerated Resolution Therapy. This is where we are able to effectively identify trigger to trauma. Example: A clients severe fear of being alone can stem from feelings of rejection they felt at a young age by peers.
  • Once the trauma and triggers have been connected, we process them utilizing guided imagery and eye movements within the A.R.T technique.
  • By the end of each A.R.T session we are able to gauge if more sessions will be needed in the future based on levels of symptom intensity.

Individuals are able to process their traumatic memories without the intensity of having to use traditional therapy. At Mental Health with JoJo we help you regain a sense of safety and well-being.
